Fans will love ‘Bearers’, classic Terry Brooks

Bearers of the Black Staff (Legends of Shannara, #1)Bearers of the Black Staff by Terry Brooks

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I’ve been following the Shanarra branch of the franchise since nearly the beginning and loved how his last trilogy (Armageddon’s Children) tied in Shanarra with the Knight of the Word.  This is a great follow up.

We take another jump beyond the end of the world as we know it and toward Shea and Flick’s time with a whole new set of characters forging their way through a changing world.

Set in the Cascade Mountains some 500 years after Hawk led his survivors to the protected valley, complacency has set in firmly and individual machinations on power may doom all Hawk’s descendants. The fleeting chance for salvation from evil will manifest in the most unlikely of characters.

Brooks is a proven master of the genre but you’ll want to start with the previous trilogy: Armageddon’s Children It will lay the foundations for this book to make prefect sense. A great read on its own – and it’s clear that Brooks has become more efficient in his descriptive style than in his early works.

Still a big fan!
